How can I turn this situation around for the better rather than for the worse?

To gain respect you have to show it and if you want people to like you , you have to like yourself. It seems obvious that you carry on about religion to others and their interests are focused on their futures and lively hood for reaching life's goals. I don't think God will solve all your issues for you so it's time you made an effort.
