Can the AFL get any bigger in status?

A relegation system would be good because it would certainly stop tanking. I just cant see it happening though because the league is fine the way it is now. I've always thought that they should combine the Sanfl, Wafl and Vfl to make a strong second tier league so then we could have relegation and promotion, but obviously there's no chance of that happening because the state leagues have alot of history and tradition just like the AFL.
