How's this for getting the girl you want to go steady with?

Ok, I just had this idea pop into my head. Tell me if you think that this would work. Call the girl up that you like (presumably someone you already know and are somewhat friendly with), and say: "Hey I was thinking the other day so I'm just gonna come out with it and say it. I like you and if I'm reading you right, you like me too. Let's stop beating around the bush and do something sometime." Ladies, if you got a call like that from a guy you knew and who was pretty cool, how would you react?
